Besides, modern technology is getting trickier every year: if more mechanics can understand how it all comes together with Kawasaki’s equipment, then they’re more likely to get it right with a customer’s motorcycle.Gary keeps a close eye on the technicians as they reassemble the motor.
The box of bits that gary shops around the country for the various tech courses. The Mobile Mechanic Training Program is Kawasaki’s way of ensuring its dealers’ technicians all get access to motors like the H2R.Unlike most transmissions, this set up uses dog rings that slide left or right to engage the gear next to it to the shaft, as opposed to moving the actual gears. It reminds me of a race-prepped bike that’s had its ports smoothed by a Dremel. The track-only supercharged 310 PS engine, announced last year, is at least 50 per cent more powerful than any other one litre motorcycle engine in production. I was a fat kid in a candy store and today the store owner (Gary) was at my disposal to go over all the treats before me.

So I cleared my afternoon schedule and hoofed it up to the tech college where Gary was holding court in front of a dozen Maritime technicians.
Cutaway shows the flow of the air/fuel through the engine.”I’m gobsmacked that’s all it takes to add 50 per cent more power to a motor. Here was a perfect opportunity to see what makes it tick. It’s not such a fun junket for the technicians perhaps, but it means a dealer can afford to send several people on the # week-long course instead of just one or two.Supercharger cutawayDrive from the crank is via a chainPlanetary gears help to crank up the impeller speedThe H2R supercharger impeller has six blades at its tip, expanding to 12 at its base. However, according to Gary, this doesn’t always get the turnout they would like, so Kawasaki decided to take the training to the dealers

Along with the show, Honda’s updating the go. Sounds like they’re trying to make the machine look like its more high-spec Euro competition, although their press release claims it will look more like the CBR1000R. The front suspension is now preload adjustable, and the fuel tank has been re-designed to have more capacity.”

Just like KTM has their 1190 and 1290 version of their flagship adventure tourer, and Triumph has both street-biased and dirt-friendly versions of the Tiger Explorer, Honda could have a variant of the Africa Twin aimed at performance, or street touring. Maybe Big Red is finally going to announce the CRF250L Rally? We’ve heard rumours about a CRF250L-based adventure bike for months now. Canadian rally racer Patrick Trahan has long been rumoured to be involved with such a project, and he told us a few weeks back that Big Red is “working on a CRF250 Rally that will be more an adventurer than a rally machine.2). Another version of the Africa Twin.” Honda already has an adventurized 500 and 750 (CB500X and NC750X).” So what is it? Here are some possibilities According to this clip from Honda Motorcycles Europe (above), Big Red has another adventure bike about to be unveiled tomorrow.
This funky bike would be an unlikely machine to brand alongside the Africa Twin, but it is an adventure-styled machine. This is a far shot, but the Honda Bulldog might be announced. Honda could simply be planning to unveil the Africa Twin at AIM Expo in Orlando this weekend, with no new model, but if that’s the case, why a video from Honda Europe? So many questions …. # This would be a bit of a cop-out, but possible. Yesterday, a British mag circulated a rumour that Honda’s Ruckus-styled concept bike would make it to production. Or does it?The video isn’t exactly clear on what’s going to happen tomorrow, but it does say that on Friday, “The Adventure Continues.3). Maybe their quarter-litre duallie will be the next bike to get the treatment? It’s worth noting the video comes from Honda Europe

The standard motor will have oil-cooled heads, but there will also be a version with liquid-cooled heads. We haven’t seen numbers for the other variations of the motor.3 mm stroke.First, some numbers: As predicted, there’s a 1750 cc (107 ci) and 1860 cc (114 ci) version of this engine.
The new oil-cooled 1750 cc motor will initially be available in Harley-Davidson’s touring lineup, as predicted (Street Glide, Road Glide, Electra Glide, Road King, Tri Glide).Despite gossip the new engine wouldn’t have self-adjusting hydraulic valves, that isn’t the case.Better airflow also resulted in better fuel efficiency, Harley-Davidson says (we haven’t heard how much better), but also allows for more power &Motorcycle Suspension systems Suppliers8212; the touring lineup supposedly has 10 per cent more torque available now, which would theoretically place them in the 156 Nm range. Harley-Davidson has debuted its new Milwaukee Eight engine, the newest powerplant for their Big Twin lineup.Harley-Davidson also re-designed the exhaust routing, so riders aren’t cooking the inside of their legs in stop-and-go traffic.
Those valves are said to offer 50 per cent better air flow, which also means there’s a new 55 mm throttle body. Some more numbers: Bore and stroke are 100 mm and 111. The liquid-cooled 1750 cc motor will power the Ultra lineup (Ultra Limited, Ultra Limited Low, Road Glide Ultra, Tri Glide Ultra) and the liquid-cooled 1860 cc motor will power the CVO lineup (CVO Street Glide, CVO Limited). While the engine is still rubber-mounted, a single counterbalancer removes 75 per cent of vibration at primary idle, Harley-Davidson says; supposedly, prototypes actually featured 100 per cent vibration control, but lacked the feedback MoCo customers wanted.13 mm respectively for the oil-cooled 1750 cc (107 ci) motor.
Engineers lowered idle speed to 850 rpm, but managed to improve charging system to 24 amps at idle (up 50 per cent) and 30 amps at 1,050 rpm.The wait is over. We haven’t seen horsepower figures for the new motors yet. The Milwaukee Eight continues to use self-adjusting valves, and Harley-Davidson says they will not need adjustment over the lifespan of the motor. # The liquid-cooled 1860 cc motor has a 102 mm bore and 114
Megosztás a facebookonShow photos by Alexandra Straub.Suzuki have unveiled an all new GSXR1000, which is about time considering the previous model was the bottom of the bunch compared to the other litrebikes. The redesign is seriously good news for superbike fans, though. The new 999 cc engine uses variable valve timing – steel balls are positioned in grooves in the intake cam sprocket and moved outward by centrifugal force, rotating the intake cam at high rpm and optimizing timing for both high-rpm and low and mid-rpm. Suzuki claim that this adds to top end power without sacrificing low end.Valves are now actuated by rockers instead of direct cam to bucket which Suzuki says allows for increased valve lift higher RPM.
Throttle is ride by wire and there is now 10-level Traction Control, electronically controlled ABS, a quick shift system and a launch control system. Here’s some sales pitch from Suzuki:Engine design– The most powerful GSX-R engine ever built.– Increased top-end without sacrificing low-end and mid-range power.–
Optimized engine dimensions to enhance cornering performance.– Increased performance and drivability with MotoGP derived technology.– Endurance-race-proven durability and reliability.Chassis design– The lightest GSX-R1000 ever built.– The most compact GSX-R1000 chassis ever produced.– Optimized geometry to increase rider confidence in Run. Turn. Stop.– Rider-oriented handling.– The most aerodynamic GSX-R1000 in history. Electronics design– Added rider confidence in Run. Turn. Stop.– Increased rider usability and convenience.Styling design–
Retained GSX-R styling identity.– Refined for aerodynamic performance.– MotoGP-derived shape and color.– Sleek bodywork enhances the lightweight chassis.GALLERYCheck out all the pics that go with this story!
